Anthos|Home is a groundbreaking startup dedicated to housing vulnerable New Yorkers. We're seeking a passionate and experienced Housing Retention Specialist to join our team and make a significant impact on the lives of those in need of stable housing.

The Role:

Anthos|Home is looking for a dedicated and experienced social worker to join our team as a Housing Retention Specialist. This new role reports to the Director of Special Programs and is essential in supporting housing stability for our Participants. The Housing Retention Specialist will work closely with both property providers and tenants, fostering positive relationships to promote long-term tenancies. Acting as the primary point of contact within the Housing Retention and Stabilization Program, the specialist will be on site weekly to support residents directly. Additionally, they will assist at-risk Participants in accessing STEHP eviction prevention funding and other essential resources to prevent homelessness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate a “warm handoff” between Participants and Property Providers before move-in, ensuring a smooth orientation to the new home environment.
  • Conduct monthly home visits and check-in calls to ensure Participant safety and well-being, focusing on support, advocacy, reducing isolation, problem-solving, and identifying needed resources.
  • Complete an assessment of Participant strengths and needs within 30 days of move-in to tailor individualized support.
  • Provide referrals to community resources as needed, addressing areas such as mental health, wellness, legal assistance, and other support services.
  • Attend meetings and case conferences as required, collaborating with other support providers to ensure comprehensive and stable support for Participants.
  • Intervene in rent arrears cases, mediate between Participants and Property Providers as needed, and assist in addressing any housing or compliance-related concerns.
  • Respond to emergencies during regular and after-hours, participating in the on-call rotation to support all Anthos|Home Participants and Property Providers.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and confidential documentation of progress notes and communications, safeguarding Participant, staff, and organizational information at all times.

Qualifications and Skills:

The ideal candidate for the Housing Retention Specialist is someone who enjoys working with people of all backgrounds. Bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years of experience in housing or human services.

Additional Skills include:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Familiarity with NYC housing market and voucher system
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, as some work locations may not have accessibility to an elevator, or meet the same requirements with reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to use public transportation or meet the same travel requirements with reasonable accommodation
  • Experience with community outreach
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, data analysis, and independent judgment skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with Salesforce and/or Eccovia is a bonus
  • Passionate about the organization’s mission
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse environment

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive starting salary: $65,000 - $70,000
  • Hybrid work environment (3-5 days in office/field per week)
  • Tuesday – Saturday schedule a possibility
