The Role
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a pivotal leadership role at Anthos|Home, overseeing the organization's operations, finance, human resources, technology, and facilities during a period of rapid growth. As a key partner to the CEO, the COO will ensure that the infrastructure, systems, and processes are in place to drive Anthos|Home’s mission of providing housing for vulnerable New Yorkers.
The COO will lead and manage a growing administrative team, including the Human Resources Generalist, Director of Finance and Administration, Director of Data and Evaluation, and other support staff. This role is essential in ensuring operational excellence and alignment with the organization's strategic goals, while continuously adapting to the evolving needs of Anthos|Home.
Executive Leadership and Organizational Strategy
- Partner with the CEO and leadership to set strategic direction, goals, and action plans for Anthos|Home.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to implement the organization's strategic vision and operating plans.
- Establish Key Program Indicators and metrics to measure success and address challenges.
- Champion a positive, inclusive, and collaborative organizational culture.
- Contribute to long-term financial planning and sustainability.
- Analyze financial data to inform strategic decisions and resource allocation.
Operations, Risk Management, and Technology Support
- Set and uphold operational excellence standards, ensuring alignment and performance across departments.
- Assess infrastructure, anticipate future needs, and propose solutions to address gaps.
- Advise the CEO on legal matters, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation in collaboration with outside counsel.
- Develop and maintain risk management systems, ensuring adequate insurance coverage.
- Oversee the outsourced IT provider, ensuring responsiveness, and support the organization's data technology needs.
Finance
- Collaborate with the Finance Team and external firm to develop and manage the annual budget, aligning with strategic goals and monitoring performance.
- Make financial projections, create systems, and assess strengths/weaknesses for strategic solutions.
- Optimize the allocation of government and foundation funding to maximize impact.
- Work with program and finance staff to create budgets for funding proposals.
- Oversee timely financial reporting for the board, staff, and funders.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure the flex pool fund meets operational needs.
- Manage banking operations and secure lines of credit for cash flow.
- Oversee annual audit and tax filings with external firm.
- Develop financial policies and internal controls based on best practices, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Oversee payroll administration, timesheet reviews, and employee inquiries.
Human Resources and Administration
- Oversee all HR functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding, development, policies, and performance management to foster a high-performing culture.
- Ensure HR policies comply with current laws and regulations.
- Manage relationships with external partners, such as payroll providers, HR legal counsel, and recruitment vendors.
- Collaborate with leadership to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through inclusive practices.
- Lead organizational development efforts and engage in culture-building initiatives.
Real Estate and Facilities
- Assume responsibility for existing lease management and oversee securing new office space as needed.
- Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of facilities including technology needs and events.
- Oversee safety protocols, promoting a secure working environment for all staff members.
Qualifications and Skills
- 8+ years of senior management experience, preferably in a nonprofit, leading operations, finance, facilities, and HR functions.
- Proven success in improving efficiency and operational performance through process creation, streamlining, or digitization.
- Ability to transition seamlessly from strategic innovation to tactical execution.
- Strong knowledge of talent practices and HR procedures.
- Inspirational leader with experience managing diverse teams and achieving ambitious goals.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, organizational skills, and attention to detail, with openness to feedback.
- Discreet, with strong judgment and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven experience in leading change management efforts and inspiring confidence in new directions.
- Strong organizational, time, and project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities.

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive starting salary: $150,000-$175,000 (dependent on experience).
- Hybrid work environment (at least 3 to 4 days in the office per week, with after-hours and weekend availability as needed).
